Application deadlines

• Fall semester entry: July 1
• Spring semester entry: December 1

Applications for admission to the doctorate in clinical nutrition are reviewed by the admissions committee of the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, with the approval of the Office of Graduate Studies. Qualified students will be admitted without regard to race, color, national or ethnic origin, gender, age or disability.

Before Starting the Online Application

It will be helpful for all applicants to review the following requirements before starting the online application.

First, read the nonacademic technical standards carefully. Accepted applicants will be asked to indicate if the technical standards can be met with or without accommodation.

Confirm Credential

Provide proof of registered dietitian nutritionist credential. Prepare a screenshot, photo, or scan of the applicant's current CDR registration to submit with the online application.

Letter of Intent

In a letter of intent, explain interest in the program. Include a summary of academic and/or professional experience, professional goals, and how completion of the degree is expected to enhance the applicant's professional practice and/or long-term goals. Copy-and-paste this content as plain text into the designated field in the online application.

Resume or Curriculum Vitae

Prepare an updated resume or CV and upload it where indicated in the online application.

References

Applicants will enter the names and contact information of three (3) individuals as references into the online application. The system will then prompt each person to submit the recommendation form and accompanying letter online.

A reference should be a faculty member, advisor, preceptor, employer or another person familiar with the applicant's work and character and can attest to the applicant's academic ability or professional competence as a dietitian. The recommendations may not be obtained from family members, friends, etc.

Make sure each reference is willing to submit a recommendation electronically.

Transcripts

Arrange to have one official copy of each transcript from every college and university attended sent directly to KU Medical Center from each institution. Official transcripts may not be provided directly by the applicant.

If the institution provides electronic transcripts, please have them sent to DNtranscripts@kumc.edu. Note: many institutions offer the National Student Clearinghouse service for the transmission of official transcripts online. Please DO NOT select "University of Kansas" if using this service.

Students Who Speak English as a Second Language

Students speaking English as a second language must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and arrange for scores to be sent directly to the KU Department of Dietetics and Nutrition. A satisfactory score on the TOEFL must be obtained within the previous two (2) years (see guidelines for English proficiency).
